Krakatau 1883
One of the most devastating Tsunami cycle of history happened on August , 1883 after an explosion in the volcano Krakatau in Indonesia. The biggest waves were 41 metres and washed away 300 sea villages. It is estimated that over 40.000 people died in this Tsunami.
Alaska 1958
After a huge earthquake, 31 millioncube metres of mountains fell into the bay and caused a Tsunami that peaked 500 metres.
Asia 2004
The earthquake that caused the Tsunami was of the magnitude 9.2 and lasted 8-10 minutes. 227.898 people died. The Tsunami encompassed Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, Maldives islands and Somalia. The epicenter of the Tsunami earthquake was an earthqauke on the seabed.
Japan 2011
The earthquake was of the magnitude 9 that caused the Tsunami. A total of 12.000 people died and 15.000 people are still missing. The property damage was the greatest that has occurred on earth and is estimated to be about 300 billion US dollars. About half a million people lost their homes in the disaster.
